Creating a design that enhanced the beauty of the classic home was important here. Eichler homes are a part of design history in the US. These homes were built around San Francisco by Joseph Eichler and are inspired by architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Neutra. With post and beam construction and large open spaces, Eichler homes are iconic even today.
With the clients, Rachel Blindauer created a colorful and casual modern house interior design. A bright and cheerful atmosphere well-suited to the family. It also complemented the light-filled interiors of the Eichler home.
The clients wanted to make the best use of their time before moving to San Francisco. After entrusting us with the design and installation process, they shipped their furniture and boxes to San Francisco in a truck and set off on a cross-country family vacation. The team met with the movers and placed the items in their new home, setting up the house according to the predetermined design plan. The new design updated the classic Eichler home in a bright palette centered around navy and gray with colorful accents and patterns.
Rachel translated the clients’ love for Greece into the design by using natural materials and fiber cement objects. A colorful striped rug was used to form a point of interest and set the tone in the living room. The rug, along with a few pieces of colorful decor, created a balance against the soft neutral colors in the living area. With the casual style, the living room was turned into a comfortable and vibrant space.
The dining room received a splash of color with a navy rug and colorful modern artwork. The striped decor enhanced the existing style of the interior ceiling and walls while staying minimal. In the kitchen, a blank canvas on the wall made for fun family activities and games. The bedroom was designed using gray as the dominant color with white and gold accents for a calming ambiance. Rachel created a blue and green painting to connect the room with the outdoor landscape. Throughout the house, care was taken to emphasize the outdoor view because the architecture was planned to maximize the indoor-outdoor connection. Thus the outdoor courtyard became a casual space to enjoy the weather and entertain guests. With the addition of a teepee, the courtyard turned into a play area for the clients’ young children, creating a fun and casual home.
